Goad Dashmi / Sweet Dashmi Recipe

Goad (Sweet in marathi) Dashmi is a flatbread, a chapati made using jaggery and milk instead of water. This is a typical Maharashtrian dish. I remember when I was kid studying in hostel, my mother used to prepare it and get it for me during the visit as these chapatis could stay longer compared to the regular ones as we add milk into this. This is very easy to prepare and can be considered an alternate option for chapatis if your kid is fond of sweet items. It's healthier as we use jaggery in it.
Lets see the procedure to prepare it.

Ingredients:
Milk - 1/4 cup
Wheat flour - 2 cups
Salt - pinch of
Jaggery - 1/4 cup
Cardamom powder - Pinch of (optional)
Ghee - 3-4 tsp
Ghee / Oil - Toasting

Procedure:
1. In a mixing bowl add the boiled and cooled milk. grated jaggery, ghee, pinch of salt and cardamom powder.Mix all together well and break the lumps if any.
2. To this add wheat flour carefully. Mix this well and form it to a smooth dough (a bit thicker compared to chapati so that it would be easier for rolling). Allow it to rest for around 10-15 mins.
3. Take small lemon sized dough, roll out on a board to small circle. You can add oil/ghee and make  folds as we make for chapatis as shown in the below pics and then roll to bigger circle. (If you are not comfortable rolling this way you can directly roll the dough to bigger circle shapes)
4. Toast this on frying pan using ghee / oil on both the sides.
5. Serve this hot with pickle / potato stir fry which is a good combination with it.

Notes:
  • You can also add a pinch of nutmeg  powder for the additional flavour.
  • You can adjust the jaggery quantity based on your requirement.
  • You can also add milk cream along with the milk.
