Mugachi Usal / Green Moong dal sabzi

Green grams is said to be a repository of protein and is well know for its nutritional value. It is can be soaked overnight and by covering it in a cloth keeping it for few hours can make it converted to sprouts. Sprouts are the excellent source of vitamins and help to build up the immunity power.
        

Green gram can be used in our daily food as a side dish for Roti / rice. Mugachi usal is the one simple dish that is prepared at least once / twice in a week in our house, it requires very less number of ingredients and also less time. We will learn the steps below for this recipes.


Ingredients:
Green gram
1 cup
Onion
1 finely chopped
Coriander
1/3 cup chopped
Salt
To taste
Garlic flakes
5
Water
3 cups
Chilly powder
2 tea spoon



To temper:
Mustard seeds ½  tea spoon
Cumin seeds ½ tea spoon
Turmeric Powder 1  tea spoon
Curry leaves 5-6
Oil 1 table spoon

1. Wash the Green gram thoroughly in water. Add 3 cups of water to it and keep it in pressure cooker on a high flame. After the 2 vissels you can reduce the flame to medium and wait for another 2 vissels. If dal is desi then you might have to wait for more vissels around 5-6.
2. Open the cooker after 6-8 mins after all the pressure is released from the cooker and keep boiled green grams a side.
3. Heat oil in a pan on a medium pan. When the oil is heated add the items to temper, when mustard seeds  start to splutter add the chopped garlic pieces, chopped onion, salt and saute for few mins.
4. When onions become translucent add the boiled green gram, red chilly powder. Mix well and add chopped coriander.
5. Add 1/2 cup of water if you want it to be gravy. Mix and cook this for 5 mins on medium flame.
6. This can be served with roti / rice.
